NEW THIS YEAR!

Craig Ottinger was a relatively new runner (last year’s Downtown Doubler 30k was his first attempt at a distance longer than a half marathon) when I asked him if he would like to give the virtual Downtown Doubler a try since he doesn’t live in the KYANA area.

He asked if he could do all four distances so I thought, why not.  He not only did all four in a two week period but he CRUSHED them.  His story was so great we featured him as a Runner Spotlight last September.  What an accomplishment!

We have decided to now make this an official event at the Downtown Doubler.  Introducing the Craig’s Quadruple Challenge.  Enter and run all four distances (30k, 15k, 8k, 4k), three of them virtually and one at the in-person Downtown Doubler on September 19, 2021.  You choose which you want to do in-person and you’ll receive a special, commemorative finisher medal, plus a shirt for each distance.  Quarter zip, long sleeve tech for the 30k, long sleeve tech for the 15k and short sleeve tech for the 8k/4k.

We’re celebrating the Olympics this year at the Downtown Doubler with Gold, Silver and Bronze shirts!  Runners in the 30K will receive a gold ¼ zip long sleeve tech shirt, in the 15K a silver long sleeve tech shirt and the 8K & 4K a bronze short sleeve tech shirt.

We have also picked up a fundraising partner for the Downtown Doubler.  You can help raise funds to keep the Ohio River Greenway (where the race takes place) the beautiful treasure it is.  You can add a donation to your registration or you can elect to fundraise and if you raise $250 or more, we will refund your registration fee!

The Greenway in New Albany includes 70 acres of wetland and bottomland forest for hiking, wildlife viewing and exploration, in addition to multi-use paths and a roadway (Water Street) with an extensive riverfront view.  Future plans call for the path at the river’s edge continuing to West 10th Street, marking the Greenway’s western boundary.

As caretakers of the New Albany/Floyd County section of the Ohio River Greenway the City of New Albany Parks and Recreation has a mission to strive to enrich the quality of life and well-being of our citizens, visitors, and future generations by creating opportunities for each to learn, grow, and play through use of our various parks and recreation programs.
